Careers Guidance & Work Experience

Careers Guidance

The Head of Careers & Industry Liaison leads the advice and support available to students throughout their time in the Sixth Form. Advice is provided at enrolment and throughout their course of study to enable students to make appropriate decisions about their future routes. Further guidance is available from our Link Careers Advisor at Brent & Harrow Lifetime Careers, by arrangement with the Head of Careers.

A range of resources in all media is available in the Learning Resource Centre and with the Head of Careers and the Director of Sixth Form to assist students in making choices that are appropriate for them at their own academic level and stage of personal development, whether it be to continue at school, join a Modern Apprenticeship scheme, enter training or seek admission to Further/Higher Education. Students applying for university are guided through the process in liaison with form tutors and subject staff, including off timetable briefing sessions.

Work Experience

Work Experience is undertaken by all students in Year 12, and is organised in partnership with the Brent and Harrow Work Experience Consortium. Placements for students following GNVQ Foundation and Intermediate and Applied A level Travel and Tourism are managed by the GNVQ Co-ordinator. These can provide opportunities for Key Skills, coursework and extension work as well as the investigation of a potential career route. Preparation for AS and Applied A level Business includes an off-timetable pre-placement briefing and a de-briefing on return to school. All students are visited by a member of staff and employers provide a report on students' performance for inclusion in their on-going Record of Achievement.
