Support Faculty
The Support Faculty consists of two distinct areas – Special Educational Needs and English as an Additional Language – with a common focus – to enable students to access the widest possible range of curriculum opportunities.
The SEN Department, under the leadership of the SENCO, supports students with SEN at all Key Stages. Our approach is flexible and designed to meet students’ individual needs. Students may be supported through small group withdrawal or supported in lessons to help them develop confidence as learners.
The EAL staff work alongside subject teachers in Key Stage 3 and 4 to maximise learning across the curriculum and to develop students’ confidence and competence in English. A Language Support Option at KS4 is available to help students cope with the increased language demands of GCSE.
The Access team is based in Key Stage 5 and works with students aged 15+ who are recent arrivals and need to develop their English language skills. It provides a progression route through to Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 courses of study.
RASP, The Refugee and Asylum Seekers Project, is an externally funded project for KS3 students who are at early stages of learning English and who are awaiting school places.
