Media Studies

The overall aim of the department is to develop media literacy in the students, mainly as a means of enhancing enjoyment of the mass media but partly as a form of protection against its more seductive and pernicious excesses.

Key Stage 4

At Key Stage 4 we study the four key concepts of Media: language, representation, institutions and audience.  These relate to a range of media forms and texts.  The knowledge gained is used in the practical production aspects of the course.

Key Stage 5

Study of the key concepts is developed across a variety of media forms including the press, film, television, radio and the internet.  Current media issues and debates are engaged with and practical production work is extended.
