Government & Politics

Government and Politics has proved to be a very successful and useful subject. Many candidates achieve A and B grades at both levels and go on to university to pursue Politics or Politics related courses such as Law, Business, Social Policy and Public Administration.

Course content
The course provides the students with the in-depth analytical understanding and knowledge of the social, economic and political system of government, its institutions and departments. Numerous issues and topics are explored and examined including: mass media, Civil Service, statistical analysis, the Judiciary, Constitutional and Administrative law, European and government business and management systems, political parties, the politics of racism, women and social policy, The institutions and role of the European Union, trade unions, local government and electoral systems.

Activities and Learning Methods
Government and Political students are fortunate as many visits from guest speakers compliment the course. These include Members of Parliament (MPs), the most recent being David Cameron and Dawn Butler; journalists; members of the Judiciary; pressure groups; local councillors; members of the Business world and ex-students.

We attend a variety of conferences in London dealing with such issues as civil liberties, human rights, race, Europe and international trade. A number of visits are planned for the coming years, the most popular being the yearly trip to Brussels, Belgium to visit the institutions of the European Union.

A Politics and Government video library and resource bank is available to all Politics students as a teaching aid.
