Key Stage 4
Our aim is to complete all English coursework in Year 10; students will be set a coursework deadline at the end of every half-term and will then have an opportunity to re-draft, as long as deadlines are kept to. As well as speaking and listening and exam preparation, there are five main coursework tasks.
- Original Writing
- Media
- Shakespeare
- Prose study
- Twentieth century drama
In Year 11, time is spent on specific writing and reading skills, to ensure maximum success and further life skills. Students start the year by studying a novel and go on to study a range of interesting poetry and prose; texts are chosen to cover a range of thought-provoking issues and citizenship links.
Poetry from different cultures and contexts is also studied, covering the work of poets from different continents. The pupils also study specific poets: Simon Armitage and Carol Ann Duffy and a range of pre-1914 poetry in preparation for the exam.
Post-16

- GCSE in Language and Literature (this qualification is aimed at pupils for whom English is a second language)
